A tragic crash occurred on Sunday evening in Beaufort County, South Carolina, following a high-speed chase, as confirmed by the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to reports of drag racing near the intersection of Keans Neck Road and Coakley Drive in Dale, SC around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Upon arrival, they discovered approximately 150 vehicles parked on the premises. As soon as the presence of law enforcement was detected, the crowd of vehicles began to disperse.
While managing traffic in the area, a deputy noticed a black Chevrolet exceeding the speed limit along Keans Neck Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the junction with Kinloch Road.
Instead of complying, the Chevrolet accelerated, leading to a pursuit. In an attempt to evade capture, the driver of the car missed a turn on Kinloch Road, resulting in a collision with a tree.
Tragically, one person inside the vehicle lost their life at the accident site, while another occupant, who was ejected from the car during the incident, sustained severe injuries.
The accident is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
