A motorist from Polk County, Florida is facing DUI manslaughter charges after a fatal collision on Interstate 4 early Sunday, July 23, 2023, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 4:10 in the morning on the eastbound lanes of the interstate.
A 31-year-old woman from Lakeland was driving a sedan in the outside lane, approaching Galloway Road. At the same time, a 36-year-old woman from Winter Haven was also driving east on the same interstate, slightly ahead of the first car. The sedan quickly caught up to and collided with the rear end of the second vehicle.
The impact caused the second sedan to spin out of control and flip onto the interstate's southern shoulder. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The first sedan was found at a standstill on the south shoulder, according to the highway patrol. The driver of the first vehicle, identified as Quarpaesha Raquel Prather, was subsequently arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter.
