What happened?

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, near a rest stop on I-4 in Seminole County, a sedan crashed into a tractor trailer, resulting in an underride accident. According to the Seminole County Fire Department, the accident occurred on I-4 near Longwood.

As a result of the accident, all vehicles involved were damaged. However, there is no indication that anyone died in the truck accident. Sources say that one person was transported to the hospital. Moreover, there was a fuel leak as a result of the truck accident.

What is an underride accident?

A semi truck underride accident is one of the most deadly types of accidents possible. This occurs when a smaller vehicle, like a sedan in this case, crashes into a tractor trailer. Because the trailer is so high off the ground, the car slides underneath the trailer. As in this case, the typical result is that the top of the car gets sheared off.

As you can imagine, underride accidents are some of the most fatal. Somewhere around 300 people are killed as a result of underride accidents every single year in the United States.
